Workshop 2023

2023 Workshop on Laboratory Safety:

Human Factors: Safety & Technology

September 17-19, 2023

About the Workshop

Where: UCLA Campus, Los Angeles, CA

The 2023 Workshop is a unique forum for researchers from academia, government laboratories, and industry to work together with EH&S experts and administrators from funding, regulatory, and other organizations to improve laboratory safety. Organizational policies, safety software, technology, and more work for and with humans. This year's theme, "Human Factors: Safety and Technology," will explore the complex and dynamic relationship between people, organizational factors, safety, and technology.

During the Workshop, participants formed Workgroups to collaborate and discuss topics at the intersection of laboratory safety and technology. After discussion, Workgroups had the opportunity to present their ideas to the greater Workshop and hear the conclusions of other Workgroups. I

The specific objectives of the Workshop were:

  1. Identify human factors design principles
  2. Explore common pitfalls of safety technology and software in the laboratory safety sphere
  3. Discuss best practices for human-centric safety technology

Proceedings of the workshop are published in the Journal of Chemical Health and Safety.
