What do I do if I or someone else gets hurt?

Serious injuries requiring immediate medical attention

  • Alert others for help
  • Call 911 immediately (911 called from your cell phone will be routed to UCLA’s emergency response desk)
  • Send a helper outside to guide first responders to injured person
  • Provide/seek first aid until first responders arrive
  • Notify your supervisor/faculty
  • Call UCLA’s EH&S Hotline at (310) 825-9797 within 8 h of the incident
  • Contact Insurance and Risk Management (IRM) within 24 h of the incident at (310) 794-6948

Non-serious injuries requiring first aid - Students

  • Alert others for help if needed
  • Provide/seek first aid
  • Notify your supervisor/faculty
  • Seek medical treatment (no forms required)

Non-serious injuries requiring first aid – Faculty and staff

  • Alert others for help
  • Provide/seek first aid
  • Notify your supervisor/faculty
  • Staff and faculty: complete UCLA’s Incident Report & Referral for Medical Treatment Form and take with you to treatment facility
  • Contact Insurance and Risk Management (IRM) within 24 h of the incident at (310) 794-6948

Any injury involving biohazardous or recombinant DNA exposure

  • Follow appropriate steps listed above
  • Notify UCLA’s EH&S Biosafety within 24 h of the incident at biosafety@ehs.ucla.edu or (310) 206 3929

  • Go to the Ashe Center: 221 Westwood Plaza (Bruin Plaza), (310) 825-4073
  • Off-hours (after 4:30PM), go to Ronald Reagan UCLA Medical Center Emergency Room, 601 Westwood Plaza, (310) 825 2111

Faculty and staff:

  • Go to Occupational Health Facility (OHF), CHS 67-120 (6th floor, 7th corridor, Room 120), (310) 825-6771
  • Off-hours (after 4:30PM), go to Ronald Reagan UCLA Medical Center Emergency Room, 601 Westwood Plaza, (310) 825 2111
