This report describes a case in which an individual was infected with human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) type 1 during HIV-1 pseudovirus production. Viral genome sequencing and phylogenic analysis suggest that contamination by a replication-competent recombinant clone might have caused the infection. This type of accidents higlights the inherent biohazards in research labs that work with HIV-derived contructs.
